A Breathtakingly beautiful Town located 6.9 miles north of Manchester and 59 miles from Blackpool, it may well be the most beautiful place in the whole northwest of England. This charming town, located on the side of a gentle hill, looks like a picture off a chocolate box or a scenic calendar. The sky is so blue, the streets so clean, the surroundings so delightful, and the town is so sleepy and peaceful. The town exists in a microclimate which is removed from the surrounding weather patterns. Frosts are unknown and plants from the tropics can be seen in local gardens. Oldham is notable for its fine members of parliament and local councillors who never seek to line their own pockets. They exist solely to serve the people who elected them. Yeah, right

Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council has been
criticized in recent years by the independent Audit Commission: it
was categorized as "weak" by the Audit Commission. It was awarded
only two stars, placing it within the bottom third of councils in
the country, according to perceived performance. According to the
Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Oldham Metropolitan Borough
Council sets the highest council tax rates in Greater Manchester. It
has the second highest council tax rates of the metropolitan areas,
and is placed as the 16th highest rate of council tax in England.
In response to these findings, the Oldham Labour Group of
Councillors took out a full page advertisement in the Oldham
Advertiser. Among the claims of the advertisement were that they
were providing the borough with a "star studded service" despite the
fact they were awarded the second worst achievable rating by the
commission. Furthermore, they claimed the social services were also
"star rated" despite being classified as "weak". The Council Leader
was said to be pleased with the Commission's findings and is quoted
as saying "It is just the beginning, but it shows we are on the way
to being an excellent Council".
Oldham has been recorded to be the second worst performing local
authority in England for providing customer satisfaction. Compared
across Greater Manchester, the borough council was last for overall
satisfaction and cleanliness, second worst for complaints, and third
from last for recycling and waste collection. No change there
then.
